SMP Gold Project

  • 2,500m Diamond Drilling Programme Commences at the Dubwana Target
  • 8,000m+ RC Drill Programme Commences at the Porcupine -- Gap Target
July 14, 2009

Helio Resource Corp. ("Helio" or the "Company") (TSX-V: HRC) is pleased to announce that two drill rigs are now active at the SMP Gold Project, Lupa Goldfields.

Diamond Drilling -- Dubwana Target

A reconnaissance programme of 5 diamond drill holes (planned 2,500m of drilling) has commenced at the recently discovered Dubwana Target (see news release dated May 14, 2009).

Four diamond drill holes (2,000m) will test a 1km strike section of the 5.5km long Dubwana Target and one diamond drill hole (500m) will test the 1.5km long Chui Target, located approximately 2km east of Dubwana (see map below and also posted at

Each of the five holes is planned to drill for 500m, and will test the down dip extension of numerous surface workings that have been exploited by artisanal miners.

RC Drilling -- Porcupine -- Gap Corridor

A programme of RC drilling has commenced in the Porcupine -- Gap target area (see map below). The objective of this programme is to:
  • extend mineralisation east and west along strike from the Porcupine Target;
  • extend the recently discovered Quill Zone mineralisation along strike (see news release dated June 1, 2009), and;
  • to explore for additional zones of mineralisation associated with the Saza Shear Zone which has never been drill tested previously in this area.

Helio, through its 100% owned subsidiary BAFEX Tanzania Ltd., can earn a 100% interest in five contiguous licences, which cover a 35km strike length of the Saza Shear Zone. The project covers the New Saza Gold Mine, which was the second largest gold producer, behind the Geita Mine, in pre-Independence era Tanzania.

Since June 2006, the Company has drill-tested eleven targets, nine of which are hosted along the Saza Shear Zone. All eleven targets have intersected bedrock-hosted gold mineralisation, the most advanced being the Kenge and Porcupine Targets (see the Corporate Presentation on the Home Page of the Company's website at
